Our teams navigate regulatory uncertainty and evolving global policy landscapes to help ensure Kraken s success in a rapidly changing industry.The KYC Operations team sits within Compliance and is responsible for Customer Due Diligence (CDD) and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) across the client lifecycle. This role supports the VIP / high-touch client segment, with responsibility for both initial onboarding reviews and ongoing monitoring of some of Kraken s most complex and high-value clientsThe opportunityConduct comprehensive EDD reviews for VIP client onboarding and ongoing monitoring,including analysis of source of wealth/source of funds, business activities, financialdocumentation, and complex beneficial ownership structuresPerform periodic, event-driven, and trigger-based reviews of existing VIP clients to reassess risk and ensure ongoing complianceIdentify, assess, and clearly document client risk factors and red flags, and make well-supported recommendations to onboard, continue, restrict, or exit client relationshipsUse internal systems, third-party research tools, and OSINT to identify potentially suspiciousactivity and determine appropriate escalation or referral to risk partnersPrepare clear, high-quality investigation reports that summarize findings, risk assessments, and recommendations for senior stakeholdersAct as a subject matter expert (SME) for Client Engagement, Relationship Management, andinternal partners on VIP EDD matters, supporting a consistent and positive client experiencethroughout the client lifecycleSkills you should HODLBachelor s degree or equivalent practical experience in finance, accounting, businessadministration, or a related field2+ years of experience in a compliance, KYC, AML, or related role at a cryptocurrency exchange, financial institution, or comparable organization, preferably supporting high-risk, high-net-worth, or institutional clientsStrong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to independently assess complex client risk profiles over timeExcellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain riskdecisions to senior stakeholdersAbility to thrive in a fast-paced environment and collaborate effectively across multiple teams supporting VIP clientsStrong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage sensitive,high-impact casesNice to havesCAMS or other relevant compliance certificationsStrong understanding of AML/KYC regulations and regulatory expectations related to onboarding and ongoing monitoring of high-risk clientsPrior experience supporting VIP, institutional, or high-touch clients in crypto, fintech, or financial servicesExperience reviewing client transaction activity, including identifying unusual patterns, assessing potential AML risk, and identifying the need for escalationsUnless a specific application deadline is stated in the job posting, applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.Please note, applicants are permitted to redact or remove information on their resume that identifies age, date of birth, or dates of attendance at or graduation from an educational institution.We consider qualified applicants with criminal histories for employment on our team, assessing candidates in a manner consistent with the requirements of the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance.Kraken is powered by people from around the world and we celebrate all Krakenites for their diverse talents, backgrounds, contributions and unique perspectives.
