We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced AML Compliance Officer to ensure our organization's compliance with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations and internal policies. The AML Compliance Officer will be responsible for implementing and maintaining effective AML programs, monitoring transactions, conducting investigations, and ensuring regulatory reporting requirements are met.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain AML and sanctions compliance policies, procedures, and programs.
- Monitor customer transactions for suspicious activity using transaction monitoring systems and tools.
- Conduct enhanced due diligence (EDD) and customer risk assessments, including for high-risk customers.
- Investigate suspicious activity and prepare Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) or equivalent reports, as required.
- Stay informed of changes to AML regulations and recommend updates to internal policies and procedures.
- Provide AML training and awareness sessions for staff across relevant departments.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities and respond to inquiries, audits, and examinations.
- Review and approve new account openings from a compliance perspective, especially for high-risk clients.
- Maintain proper documentation and records of AML investigations, reports, and audits.
- Collaborate with internal departments (e.g., Legal, Risk, Operations) to ensure enterprise-wide compliance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Law, Business, or a related field (Master’s or JD preferred).
- Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience in AML, compliance, or financial crime risk management.
- Strong understanding of global AML regulations (e.g., BSA, USA PATRIOT Act, EU AMLDs, FATF guidelines).
- Experience with AML software (e.g., Actimize, SAS, FICO, etc.) is an asset.
- Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) or similar certification preferred.
- Excellent analytical, investigative, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
Preferred Attributes:
- Experience in a regulated financial institution, fintech, or cryptocurrency exchange.
- Familiarity with sanctions screening and Know Your Customer (KYC) best practices.
